We need more full-chested diatribes this is so well written and I absolutely agree with all of this. I am still feeling the sting of 'Reader, follow the ball' giant giant eyeroll
Hi, I wanted to comment for two reasons: I agreed wholeheartedly with your sentiments about this book, and I enjoyed your style of writing. You're observant, witty, and such great fun to read!
A heads up: a book of Babitz's letters is to be published in November by NYRB, and guess who's editing it? Lili Anolik. And even worse is its title: Too L.A. (If that doesn't elicit an eye roll, too, Pao!)
thank you so much for your lovely comment, you’ve made my day!! I’m glad you enjoyed my piece :)
and oh come onnn. that’s so disappointing. and really strange. surely the public has had enough of eve babitz being mediated exclusively through anolik? wouldn’t it be refreshing to have someone else at the helm???
Totally agree. I found this book so insufferable that I returned it to the bookstore for a credit.
